Empowering researchers & non-native learners through interviews

chapter
posted on 2024-05-30, 08:54 authored by Sarah ShonoSarah Shono

The importance of conducting research in which participants are empowered and in which the voices of the other are clearly heard is well-established within the filed of second language (L2) education. However, interviewing research participants in a language other than their native language is a daunting and difficult task. Qualitative research literature offers little direction or assistance for researchers wishing to collect data by interviewing nonnative speakers. This chapter presents a repertoire of interviewing strategies for use in second or foreign language speakers.
