Dr. Mohamed Elsayed Mukhtar earned his MA and PhD in Broadcast Journalism and Mass Communication, from University of Missouri at Columbia, one of the top journalism schools in the USA, with a focus on documentary film production and storytelling. Dr Mukhtar has more than 20 years of international teaching, research, and professional experience, currently holding the position of Associate Professor at the American University of Bahrain (AUBH). Prior to coming to AUBH, he held numerous prestigious academic positions at the University of Bahrain, California State University, Hayward; Texas A&M University; and California State University, Northridge. On many occasions, through his teaching in both the United States and in Bahrain, Dr. Mukhtar has been awarded the most inspirational and best teacher of the year award.

Dr Mukhtar has many publications and conference presentations in the areas of media criticism; media and terrorism; media curriculum development; media convergence; as well as ethics and Islamic ethics. His recent research interests also include the ethical use of artificial intelligence about which he has given multiple workshops and lectures.

At the University of Bahrain, Dr Mukhtar was the founding director of the Bahrain Credit Media Center, a facility recognized by UNESCO as the first full-scale, multi-media center in the Middle East, where he designed, built, and managed full-scale TV, film, and radio studios. He has been a jury member in many international film festivals, such as San Francisco International Film Festival; Morocco International Film Festival of the South; Bahrain Film Festival; the US Embassy Project Documentaries; and Sultanate of Oman's Media Excellence Awards.
